Hunger Games!

Katniss is the main character in the Hunger Games series. Every year she is elegible to be in the Hunger Games by putting her name in a ballot that could mean life or death for her. The Hunger Games is something held every year that makes children fight to the death in an arena for fun and to remind people not to rebel. Katniss was taught at a very young age how to shoot a bow and arrow in case she was ever selected.  Katniss may just be a kid but I think she has to grow a lot in throughout the Hunger Games season.  First, like an adult, she can take care of the people she cares about, however, she can also be a normal kid.  She is an example of the perfect balance of responsibility and playfulness needed to be a young adult.

 Katniss showed that she could be very responsible and caring like an adult. When her mother could no longer care for them and  their father died, she provided food for herself and her sister Prim. She was the caretaker for Prim and needed to do everything a mother and father would do for their kids.  Also, when Prim was called for the hunger games, instead of letting Prim fight, Katniss decided to replace her knowing Prim would not survive. In fact, that decision was a good one because she actually won. As seen above,  she steps up for for her family and will do anything to help them.  In this way, she is the model of an adult willing to to anything for family.  

Katniss is also mature because when she was being pampered to look better she hated it. I  also hate dressing up and so does Katniss. She knows who she is and does not want to change for other people.  She is a warrior and will always have to be strong to provide for Prim.  Also when Katniss hunts its not for fun it's for life. She is serious about providing and does not have time for other things that do not help her family.  She is extremely driven and I admire that. Her dedication shows how serious she is about providing for her family.

This is a great book. There are many sad parts though. All in all I think this book would be good for people who like suspensful books. Also people who like sad books. I'm thankful I don't have to go through those horrible "games".
