Amulet #5 The Prince of Elves by Kazu Kibiushi

In the Amulet, Emily, the protagonist, is sent to a mysterious world when her mother is taken by a monster through a portal. After regaining her mother and brother, Emily soon comes to understand the true power of the necklace, more specifically the Amulet. After realizing what great power she has, she uses the power of the amulet for good. She trains and is destined for greatness, even saving the mysterious world she was put in. Although she can use the amulet's power, the amulet has a mind of its own. The amulet is a wily and cunning entity that Emily constantly has to keep under control. Their are more than one "stonekeeper" in the world and Emily is one of them. Some of the stonekeepers are good but some are evil. For example, the Elf King uses his amulet for evil. The amulet's entity shows itself to Emily a  lot and talks to her but what does it want with her?

The amulet shows itself during times of great frustration or in times of war. Willpower to not give into the amulet is what keeps the amulet in line. Each amulet has its own engraving but what is strange is that Max, the antogonist, has the same engraving and entity as Emily. Sadly Max gave into the stone. Max became a slave to the amulet. Max is the right hand man to the Elf King. The Elven Kingdom wants to wage war against the rest of the world to control all.  With the help of the stone the elves might. Max used Emily and made her guide him to motherstone or the creator of all the stones.The amulet is it's own entity but not in a physical form. It uses the power of physical forms to succeed in it's own goals. Max succeeded in using the amulet and Emily and took the last peice of the stone. It seems like the stone want to watch people suffer.  Maybe it enjoys watching people fight with each other. Maybe it is helping Emily in a way the amulet only understands.

The stone reminds me of the ring from the Lord of the Rings series. Although the Ring does not have an entity it does have a willpower of it's  own. The Ring also entices people to fight over the ring. It enhances others greed and malice, envy, anger, hatred, and jealousy. Once a person puts the ring on they cannot give the ring up. Just like how the amulet will not give up the person when they give into it once. Also the amulet will always try and make you give into it. Like the ring the amulet the ring has only one true master. For the ring it is Sauron and for the amulet it is the stonekeeper. You can tell  that the Ring and the amulet have many things in common with each other.

I enjoy these books very much. They bring a lot of joy to reading and brings excitement to each page. I feel  bad for Emily since she carry's such a big burden on her  shoulders at such a young age. I couldn't imagine carrying such a burden of saving a world at my age and even at an older age. The amulet brings many questions to my mind. Which side is it on and what does it want. The amulet can be cunning at dark times for a person just like the Ring is.
