The Red Pyramid

In the book The Red Pyramid, one of the main characters Carter goes through a lot.  His experiences  are why I think he grows up during the span of this book. Carter develops courage and maturity. Carter has a sister Sadie. She is two years younger than Carter, who is 14. Carter and Sadie are descendants of pharaohs.  They have magical powers and can use those casting spells. Carter's mother died trying to release a godess named Bast. Bast is the cat godess. Carter's dad would take him around the world to look at artifacts, while Sadie would stays with her grandparents.

Carter becomes much more mature as the book goes on. In the beginning of the book, when he was with father he was just a regular teen. He complained about traveling the world, wish he had friends and he wish he could stop traveling so much.  Later in the book, Carter discovers that he is a godling.  A godling is someone who is a host or a body for a god to be in.  In fact, Carter had the god Horus inside of him and Sadie had Isis.  Because they are godlings they are being chased by magicians who want to kill them.  Carter being the older sibling feels he has to protect her.  He realizes that for them to live, he needs to take care of her and stop being selfish.

Carter starts to develop more courage toward the middle of the book. When the Set monster was chasing after Sadie and him, he stood up and fought it, while the others rushed to get on the plane. He also tried to fight two magicians but got shot with a magical shotgun, turning him into a lizard.  He sacrificed himself to save his sister. He takes a lot of risks for the people he cares about. He also is heading towards Set to fight him instead of running away from him, even though Set is a really strong a god.

I think this book is good because of constant excitement  This book has its funny moments too.  This would be good for people who are into mythology and thrillers. Also I think this book would be good for people who loved the Percy Jackson series.  Both Percy and Carter are similar in that they both learn they are special and have to deal with growing up quickly to face the challenges they face.
